Our most recent family garden workday was hosted on May 31st, 2025. Students were able to harvest fresh fruits and vegetables, including avocados, loquats, carrots, and turnips!Â
Students also engaged in a soil testing experiment to determine the nutrient levels in our garden bed soil. Undergraduates taught the younger students about the importance of maintaining adequate nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium levels in our soil and how the soil could be remedied if levels were higher or lower than adequate. Our results showed that phosphorus and potassium contents were at the desired level, but nitrogen levels were lower than recommended. The younger students were able to help us decide that an appropriate action would be to add some of our homemade compost to our garden beds!
Our last activity was to paint rocks that would end up in our herb spiral as added decoration for the garden space.
