The Oakes Student Senate is the governing body for Oakes students!
Our primary responsibilities include:
✅ Allocating the College Membership Fund 💰
✅ Recommending policies and positions that affect students 🗳️
✅ Organizing and publicizing student elections 📢
✅ Informing Oakes students about issues and events at UCSC and across the UC system 🌎
✅ Appointing students to university committees, including Academic Senate, Student Union Assembly, Student Committee on Committees, Core Council, and SUGB.
🎉 The Senate also sponsors and plans exciting events for our college, like:
The Big/Bigger/Biggest One 🎶🕺
Oakes Town Hall, and much more!
We meet weekly to:
Discuss relevant campus issues
Hear presentations about programs, initiatives, and funding request
Vote on important agenda items
📍 Location? The Oakes Library (map)
🕖 Time? 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
🗓️ When? Weekly on Thursdays
It’s easy, any student can:
1️⃣ Attend two consecutive meetings to gain voting status.
2️⃣ Keep voting privileges by attending two-thirds of the Senate meetings each quarter.
Oakes affiliates and residents are welcome to attend Senate meetings at any time during the quarter. Non-residents are also encouraged to participate and can earn voting privileges. You can also get directly involved by joining one of our permanent committees, which play an active role in the Senate’s daily operations.
Have an idea you’d like to share with the Senate? Reach out to the executive chairs (contact information available on our Core page) at least 24 hours before the scheduled GBM.
Don’t miss our Town Hall Meetings every quarter to stay updated, ask questions, and share ideas if you can't make it to the schedule general body meeting! 🗣️✨
Join us and make a difference in your community! 💛🐌
