The Student Union Assembly (SUA) is the official undergraduate student government at UC Santa Cruz. SUA represents over 14,000 undergraduate students on the administrative, local, state, and federal level.
The Student Union Assembly is also the official voice of undergraduate students on campus-wide and system-wide committees. The SUA promotes activism, civic participation, discussion, debate, and awareness of public issues from a variety of perspectives and viewpoints. The SUA hosts campus-wide events, rallies, conferences, and educational forums that trains students in direct action organizing, representation, and student advocacy.
The Student Academic Senate (SAS) is a standing undergraduate committee of the SUA.
The SAS was created to establish goals and criteria for academic policy and advocacy for the student body. The SAS will discuss, act on, and organize campaigns around issues and problems concerning the academic affairs of UCSC students. The SAS will work with SUA and other individuals, groups, and organizations to promote awareness, problem solving, and student voice.
The Student Fee Advisory Committee (SFAC) is an important, influential advisory group that focuses on budget allocations and use of student fees that support various campus services and programs. SFAC serves as the primary avenue for channeling student input into decisions about the allocations of fees, including the Student Services Fee, Student Programs Fee, campus-based fees (referenda), certain Miscellaneous Fees, and the Seismic and Life Safety Fee.
SFAC functions as an advisory committee to the Vice Provost for Student Success (VPSS) and makes direct funding recommendations as well as assessments of units and programs.
The Students Committee on Committees is a student organization that appoints students to important committees such as planning and budget or educational policy. It is a great way to get letters of recommendation or experience in advocating for students.
The SCOC college representatives are liaisons between SCOC and the respective college governments to inform them of the committees.
The SCOC, then, is charged with appointing and overseeing undergraduate representatives to these committees. There are a plethora of exciting opportunities for you to investigate and apply to. We greatly appreciate your passion in getting involved here at UC Santa Cruz.
The Student Union Governance Board (SUGB) was established to operate and maintain student governed spaces in UC Santa Cruz, which include the Student Union, Student Media Center, and Redwood Building. The Student Union (SU) is a place for students to rest, study, and collectively organize.
