What is College 9 Senate?

The College Nine Senate is a university-recognized student government comprised of College Nine students. College Nine Senators seek to represent and amplify our students' voices on issues that affect the College Nine community, and act as a liaison between university officials and the students. The Senate develops and upholds the international theme of College Nine while raising awareness on important international issues with our fellow students.

Senate meets weekly on Thursdays, from 6pm-7:30pm in the Social Sciences 1 Room 261.

During these meetings we discuss issues and ideas affecting the experiences for College Nine students. Senate sends representation to campus-wide and UC organizations, while also allocating funds to many College Nine organizations and programs.

How can I get involved?

No experience, no problem! We welcome any and all College Nine Affiliates to attend two consecutive weekly meetings to become an official Senator and gain voting status. That's it! You can start attending at any time, and we welcome you to attend any meeting throughout the year.

What types of events does Senate sponsor?

Throughout each quarter, College Nine Senate plans and funds various student organizations and publications, widely-attended college-wide events (such as culture nights, karaoke nights, movie nights, and more), conferences, guest speakers, bone marrow registration drives, and much more! The Senate not only collaborates on events with other student organizations and college partners, but also encourages its members to pitch, plan, and host their own original event ideas.

What are some benefits of joining Senate?

By attending regular College Nine Senate meetings, you will hear about the very latest events being planned in College Nine and the current issues being discussed on campus. Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to voice your opinion by sharing your views and ideas and voting on Senate decisions, ultimately impacting your College Nine community as a whole. Furthermore, you will gain valuable leadership skills, event-planning experience, and foster valuable connections with other community leaders and faculty.
