Thesis: Within the County of Santa Cruz it is evident that there are large gaps in equitability in terms of the environments in which children are brought up in. The healthiness of a child/person are largely dependent on the social contexts that surround them, as well as their ability to access the resources and care they need. First 5 SCC is working to overcome these barriers to equitable health by intervening early for the most vulnerable populations of young children. By intervening early, these children will have a greater ability to achieve health and wellbeing at all stages in life

Research Questions: Why are Early Interventions important in the fight for more equitable health and education in Santa Cruz County? How do inequalities in early childhood present themselves later in life?
During my Field Study with First 5 Santa Cruz County I was made aware of many of the social, political, and economic barriers that prevent us from achieving equitable health in this county. We know how crucial the first 5 years of a child's life are, thus emphasizing how important early interventions are in creating more equitability across sectors of early childhood.
