Position Summary: The Bilingual Writing Specialist supports the work of the Writing Center Director, provides professional development for Writing Center tutors, and provides direct consultation services. Specifically, the Specialist provides culturally and linguistically responsive support for bilingual Spanish-English undergraduate and graduate students, including heritage speakers of Spanish. This support is provided through personalized consultation services such as one-on-one tutoring as well as group tutoring and workshops. Further, collaborating with the Director, the Specialist will help train writing center tutors on effective strategies for supporting bilingual students and will conduct workshops on oral and written communication tailored to diverse cultural backgrounds. In addition to direct tutoring, the specialist will manage essential writing center operations such as scheduling and communication and engage in outreach activities to promote services across campus. Collaboration with faculty and staff is key to improving the academic experience for bilingual students. This includes active engagement in curricular and extracurricular activities geared towards supporting bilingual students, as well as contributing to the assessment of the effectiveness of the bilingual support program. The specialist will participate in continuous professional development to stay updated on best practices in bilingual education and writing support.

Position Summary
The GWC Program Specialist will manage and coordinate writing consultation efforts by effectively engaging with diverse Graduate Student staff and constituents, and utilizing culturally competent frameworks to fulfill the GWC mission – to help graduate and professional students become effective communicators in their fields. The Program Specialist collaboratively manages and provides programmatic support for student staff, events, and writing consultation efforts, which includes supervising student staff, managing the consultant appointment system, and planning and implementing workshops, programs, and communication with stakeholders. This position also supports the effective functioning of office operations, procedures, and resources, and provides back-up support for similar GSRC tasks and programs.

Demonstrates proficiency with maintaining websites, graphics programs like Canvas, learning management systems, and publication programs, or capacity to learn them. (Preferred)

ABOUT POMONA COLLEGE: Located near Los Angeles, California, Pomona College is widely regarded as one of the nation's premier liberal arts colleges. The Pomona College Writing Program and Center for Speaking, Writing, and the Image (CSWIM) is seeking a teacher and administrator as Assistant Director. The CSWIM is the central academic resource of the Writing Program, consisting of a diverse and committed team of peer Writing, Speaking, and Image Partners. In support of Pomona College's strategic vision, which cultivates a "creative, holistic and rigorous education" with an "emphasis on building relationships and learning in a diverse community," the CSWIM supports inquiry about writing in the disciplines and across the curriculum.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Director, College Writing will serve four related core responsibilities: (1) The Assistant Director, College Writing will oversee and coordinate the day-to-day functions, staffing, and student personnel of the Center for Speaking, Writing, and the Image. (2) The Assistant Director, College Writing will support Director of College Writing in providing instructional support for faculty, Gen Ed Writing Intensive and Speaking Intensive related issues, and the overall development, enrichment, and ongoing revision of the Writing Program's vision, mission, and work, including the addition of support in oral and visual communication. (3) The Assistant Director, College Writing will support the ID1 Critical Inquiry Program and writing pedagogy by teaching either a section of an ID1 seminar or ENGL 87: Writing Theories, Processes, and Practices annually. (4) The Assistant Director, College Writing will support and work with the College’s diverse multilingual, international, and first generation student populations in the following ways: training Writing, Speaking, and Image Partners; teaching written and oral communication workshops; instructional support for faculty; and assisting students in the transition to writing at Pomona College (addressing imposter syndrome and helping students adjust to the new communication demands of higher education in the U.S. and in English).
Reporting directly to the Director, College Writing, the Assistant Director, College Writing works independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:
Supervise student tutors (called Writing and/or Speaking and/or Image Partners) in the CSWIM, typically more than 30 per year.Must complete the bi-annual AB 1825 Sexual Harassment Prevention Training as required by the State of California.
Collaborate with the Director to recruit, hire, train, and supervise Writing and Speaking and Image Partners and Head Writing and Speaking and Image Partners.
Work with Director to design and implement training program for new and returning Writing and Speaking and Image Partners and provide ongoing feedback to Writing and Speaking and Image Partners about their work as peer tutors.
Mentor Head Writing Partners in their capacity as student leaders among CSWIM staff.
Collaborate on development of training materials for Writing and Speaking and Image Partners.
Collaborate with the Director on grant writing and development efforts.
Oversee CSWIM schedule.
Collaborate with Director in coordinating Writing and Speaking and Image Partner Program with faculty, students, Partners, and other Academic Resources staff.
Contribute intellectual vision and support around inclusive writing pedagogies.
Train and support Writing and Speaking Partners in working with a diverse population of writers and speakers, including one on one consultations, workshops, and outreach.
Provide instructional support to faculty around area of expertise in writing pedagogy.
Collaborate with and support student groups and cohorts on campus in their writing needs.
Work with the Director to write annual report for the CSWIM.
Collaborate on creating and revising CSWIM policy.
Develop and implement program-related research projects.
Design and teach an ID1 Critical Inquiry Seminar or ENG87 annually.
Oversee the online scheduler and identify and implement improvements to the online scheduler.
Work with Program staff to design and analyze student evaluations, surveys, and other assessment plans.
Work with Program staff to collect, compile and analyze CSWIM usage data for the purposes of assessment.
Work with Director to create and oversee CSWIM promotional and outreach materials, including website and social media.
Oversee necessary record-keeping and filing pertaining to other responsibilities.
Coordinate special projects/tasks/duties and provide assistance as assigned.
Attend staff meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS: MA, MFA, or PhD in English, Rhetoric and Composition, TESOL, or another discipline represented at the college. College-level teaching experience is required. Experience in the administration of a writing center or writing across the curriculum program is preferred. Expertise may include writing in the disciplines/ writing across the curriculum, writing program administration, sociocultural rhetoric, language diversity, transnational theories of writing, international and multilingual literacies, first generation college writers, multimodal composition, accessible pedagogies, A.I. and writing, and creative writing including but not limited to creative nonfiction and the essay.
REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Travel may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: Full-time, benefits eligible, exempt position. The salary range for this role is between $75,000 to $78,300 yearly, with a competitive benefits package. The specific factors that the organization will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include education, training, prior experience, and performance in prior role. All staff positions are ineligible for visa or permanent resident card sponsorship. As a California employer, Pomona College requires all employees to be residents of California.
