Hockey
We follow a rolling programme in the Autumn and Spring Terms to Years 4 to 6. In order to build on and reinforce key skills, and competitive values, we follow a similar programme for all year groups building on the previous years’ skill base.
At the beginning of every year, the boys are reassessed that there is healthy internal movement between teams and the individual improvement is acknowledged.
Each child will regularly represent the school in competitive matches irrespective of ability through a diverse fixture list. Sporting values are taught explicitly to all boys regardless of ability.
Key objectives:
Defending
Stick work
Dribbling
Marking
Passing
Shooting
Attacking and Counterattacking
Positional Play
Small Sided Games
Preparation for internal and external competitive matches
Rules and tactics of the discipline
Boys are taught in small groups with a high adult to child ratio at the UCS Sports Ground at Farm Avenue, NW2 2BH.
It is a health and safety requirement that boys have the required equipment: Shin pads and Gumshield. Hockey is generally played on Astro Turf, so studded boots are not needed. Sticks will be supplied by the school. Correct school house kit is required for the boys to be allowed to take part in the days training.
Hockey is supplemented by regular fixtures against other local schools and assorted tournaments. There is a Hockey Tour for Years 5 and 6 in the Autumn Term.
