For Spring 2022, Vivek Aji tasked Flip Tanedo with leading the department town hall meeting. We have decided to include our IDEA leadership team (Flip, Bryan, Liz) to incorporate some of the lessons from our IDEA experience into organizing the Town Hall in a way that supports our values: community, information sharing, and mutual respect.
Owen, introducing himself as incoming chair
Staff personnel updates from Wendi Tapia (perhaps ask Jae, Theo, Jon Eldridge, Dominica, Namrata to say hi?)
Physics & Astronomy Graduate Student Association: especially if there are plans for a student BBQ
Society of Physics Students & Astro Club
APS IDEA team update
Brief presentation from comprehensive exam committee for first year grads. (To prepare first years, but also to show that the committee recognizes the discussions of the past 2 years)
Updates from undergrad advising: what undergrad advisors do, speakers in Physics 39
Updates from grad advising: recent awards
Open Q&A.
Invitation to socialize at the Barn.
The town halls are about the department community as a whole. This includes faculty, grad students, postdocs, undergraduates, administrative staff and the dev techs. (Ideally it would also include the custodial staff who service our buildings.) As such, we are exploring ways of having the Climate Committee take the lead on future town hall organization.
