Coach Montenaro

Sprint Coach

Coach Montenaro started running for his Middle School Cross Country team in Ohio. After his first race, he was on Varsity for the remaining middle school years. When he got to high school he was one of the only freshman in his school (similar to Weddington’s size) that got a Varsity letter. He ran all four years as a Varsity runner for both Cross Country and Track. He attended and ran for Western Carolina his freshman year but transferred to Tiffin University for his remaining college years where he was a national qualifier for the NAIA Track Championships. Once he graduated he moved down to North Carolina where he became a teacher and Head Cross Country and Track coach at Piedmont High School where his teams made it to the State Meet every year and he coached a few state individual champions (men’s 400 and 4x400). After 8 years, he accepted an assistant coaching job at Queens University of Charlotte and helped lead them to the National Cross Country meet multiple years before moving to Weddington.
