Welcome to the class!! I look forward to getting to know each student!
I received my PhD in Spanish Literature from the University of Kansas. After teaching for 7 years at the University of Kansas, I worked at a small liberal arts college with only about 1000 students. I have taught at UCM for 24 years.
I teach all levels of Spanish from Elementary I to the 4000 level courses for majors.
I grew up in Overland Park, KS but have also lived in Nebraska and Maryland. My parents still live in Overland Park and I have a brother who lives in Vancouver, Canada and a sister who lives in Leawood, KS. I have two nephews and three nieces.
I am married and my husband is a professor of audiology. I have four children (three sons and one daughter) and one daughter-in-law. I have three grandsons who live in Minnesota (two are identical twins).
I studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain and did volunteer work in Latin American countries. I have taken students on a study abroad trip to Spain as well.
I love teaching language, film and literature. I especially like to use film in my courses because I believe stories are compelling ways to understand the human condition. Film, in particular, gives an insight into the perspectives, problems, and dilemmas of our existence in an emotionally satisfying way.
