Films judged as excellent should be professional, contain a good story, and should not try too hard to be funny or goofy. Satire is welcome, however. Keep in mind, that comedy is one of the hardest genres to master.
Films will be evaluated on a variety of criteria, depending on the category, but will include the following:
Originality of the story and screenplay
Use of foreign language for the level
Avoidance of clichés, overused references to popular culture, and “silly” or juvenile humor
Overall creative and skillful use of film techniques such as use of camera, setting, tone, acting, editing, music, and overall effect.
If a native / heritage speaker is used for a speaking role and the film has NOT been entered in the Spanish heritage speaker level, it should be for a minority of the overall speaking roles. Judging on the language use in a film that includes a native speaker will exclude the native speaker’s abilities from consideration.
