Welcome MAT Class of 2026! Please check back here for announcements.
6/24 Email sent by Susan Toma-Berge
Hello MAT Anteaters,
Welcome to your first week in the MAT program! I wanted to share this note from our Financial Aid team:
Thank you for your patience as the Financial Aid office works through the issues with the new program. Just a few updates from them.
- No one with an accepted financial aid offer will be dropped at this time.
- The disbursement of accepted aid is actively being processed by management and eventually applied to each student's account. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear the process will be completed today, but we are optimistic it will be finalized before the end of this week.
- If they are unable to complete the disbursement by this Friday, they will request an additional fee deadline to July 3rd.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Susan

Hello MAT Anteaters,
I have heard from a few of you regarding Financial Aid for the summer. The Financial Aid office recently adopted new software and they are encountering some issues. If you were waiting for your financial aid offer, it may not come before the fee deadline of June 20th. For this reason, they were able to work it out with the Summer Session office to extend the fee deadline to June 27th but ONLY if you had filled out a 2024-2025 FAFSA.
If you did NOT file a 2024-2025 FAFSA, you are not eligible for the extended fee deadline.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Susan

Hello MAT Anteaters,
We are counting down the days until our Orientation on Friday, June 20th. I was asked by our Financial Aid office to relay two messages to you.
- The Financial Aid offers are expected to go out early next week (June 16-19)
- If you are applying for summer aid, once you complete the Summer Aid Application (including UCI undergrads) please send an email to Maria Noblejas at mnobleja@uci.edu. Make sure to include your ID number.
Stay safe everyone!
Take care,
Susan

Hello MAT Anteaters,
I was asked by our Financial Aid Team to share with you that they are still working through the new system and they are troublshooting issues that come up. This has been slowing down their ability to send you your Financail Aid offer. They hope to have to have it resolved by the end of tnext week, ahead of the June 20th deadline.
For those of you who are/were UCI undergrads, they ask that you NOT TOUCH your Financial Aid application yet. They will manually change your status for you.
The Summer Aid Application is now available. Below are the instructions on how to submit the form. Make sure to include all the information: name, date, ID, housing plan, units (MS 10 and 12 units/ SS 10 and 10 units). Let me know if you have any questions.
I know I said this would be my last email to your personal address. We will eventually get there!
Take care,
Susan

Hello MAT Class of 2026!
We are now just 15 days away from Orientation. The Coordinators and I are looking forward to seeing you in person and for you to meet each other.
You have been enrolled in your summer courses for summer 1 and summer 2. By now you should have received an email from the UCI Summer Session office with information on how to pay your summer fees. Unfortunately, the Financial Aid office is not ready to offer their aid packages yet, but they hope to have it ready by next week.
We will open the application for our MAT scholarships soon. There are a variety of scholarships with specific requirements, so review the descriptions carefully when applying.
You should have received an email from Jaycee Chu, Director of Student Affairs, regarding your TB test results. If you can't find her email, I have posted it on our MAT website. I'll do the same with this email.
Your polo shirts were delivered and they look great. You will receive your shirt at the Orientation!
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions,
Take care,
Susan
p.s. This is my last time using your personal email address. From here on out, I will use your UCI email. As we get closer to Orientation, start getting into the habit of checking your UCI email address.

5/15 Emails sent from Susan Toma-Berge: MAT: Financial Aid Webinar, UCI Emails, Summer Enrollment
Hello MAT Anteaters,
Spring quarter is moving so quickly! If you are graduating this semester/quarter, a huge congratulations! I hope you are all taking some time to rest and gear up for the next 14-months.
It was great to see so many of you attend the Financial Aid Info Session yesterday. The slides and the recording from that session have been posted to the MAT website. Some of the key points were:
- You will need 2 FAFSA forms. One for 2024-2025 and one for 2025-2026. Undocumented or students from mixed status families may consider the CA Dream Act application.
- If you are a student who is graduating soon, wait until this quarter/semester is complete to change your university to UCI.
- The G-44 form is the application for CalGrant. Even if you were not eligible as an undergrad, your eligibility status may have changed.
The Coordinators and I will enroll you in your Summer Session classes. Class start the week of June 23rd. MS classes are on M/W and SS classes are on T/Th. Summer Schedules will be posted soon.
Your UCI emails will be ready next week. You will need your UCInetID to waive GSHIP. Once active, most of my communication will be sent to your UCI email.
All my emails will be archived on the MAT Website under "Announcements" so you can check to see if you've missed anything from me.
Thank you,
Susan
p.s. If you are receiving this message in error and you have decided not to attend the UCI MAT program, please let me know and I will take your name off our list.
5/9 Email sent from Jaycee Chu, Director of Student Affairs: MAT TB Requirement
Dear Incoming MAT Candidates,
Welcome to UCI and I look forward to meeting you all this summer!
As part of your UCI School of Education admissions requirements and in preparation for your student placements, you will be required to submit a negative TB test by the deadline of June 27th, 2025. If you have a history of a positive TB test, you will need to complete the TB Health Assessment form (signed by your primary care provider) and perform a chest x-ray (dated within 1 year of school start date). Compliance with the SOE TB requirement and the UC mandated requirements are monitored by and facilitated through the UCI Student Health Center (SHC). The TB test, for purposes of SOE requirements and required for fieldwork placement during the program, is valid for 3 years and must remain current throughout the program. We will accept valid test results dated from January 1st, 2025.
I will email you again once you have access to the UCI Student Health Center system but we want to make sure you can prepare in advance. The deadline to submit TB Testing documentation is June 27th, 2025. Please note: there will be a $20 charge to your zotaccount from the UCI Student Health Center to conduct this review. Directions on how to pay for the review will be included in my next email.
Students will need to submit verification of a valid TB test by confirmation from a doctor’s office or confirmation from a lab or clinic. If you do not have a valid TB test on file (dated from January 1st or after), we would recommend you completing this requirement as well as obtaining immunizations through one of these options:
UCI Student Health Center:
For students enrolling in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP)- The cost of testing and immunizations are 100% covered by UC SHIP and your coverage will begin on June 23rd, 2025. A referral is required by SHC if you receive TB testing and/or immunizations at any outside clinic or provider’s office. A referral is not required if you obtain these services at an in-network retail pharmacy. Note that CVS Minute Clinic is a clinic, a separate billing entity from their pharmacy and, therefore, a referral is required. Contact SHC’s Insurance Services department at shc-insurance@uci.edu or 949-824-2388 to obtain a referral once your coverage begins.
Contact your primary care physician’s office for testing and immunizations. Reminder – SHC is the PCP for all students enrolled in UC SHIP. A referral is required if a student wishes to obtain TB testing and/or immunizations from any other primary care provider.
CVS Minute Clinic: https://www.cvs.com/minuteclinic/services/tb-testing.
Additional local sites that may provide TB Tests and Immunizations here .
Please contact me if you have any questions and I’ll be following up in a few weeks with next steps.
Best,
Jaycee

Unfortunately, the Financial Aid office asked us to reschedule this info session. There is a new system they are working out and it is not yet ready for 2025-2026. We will reschedule for May 14th but do not have the time yet. I will email/post as soon as we are ready to register for the May 14th info session. My apologies for this inconvenience.

Update on Housing - no need to email Robin Michaels. Instead, look for messages from the housing office to your personal emails. If you get an email from the housing office, respond right away. You are still welcome to email Robin <robin.michaels@uci.edu> with questions.
3/10 Email sent by Susan Toma-Berge
One more thing I forgot to mention, if you are interested in signing up for UCI Housing, you will probably not be able to sign up yet until your UCI email is set up. For this reason, please contact Robin Michaels <robin.michaels@uci.edu> directly and let her know that you are a newly admitted MAT student.
