The waiver period for MAT will be 5/15-6/5. During the waiver period, please visit this UCI Student Health website to begin the process of waiving your GSHIP: https://shc.uci.edu/insurance/waiving-ship/apply-for-waiver (This website will not be updated until 5/15. Do not try to waive insurance prior to the waiver period)
Please contact SHC’s Insurance Services department for questions, updates and/or additional information.
Email: shc-insurance@uci.edu Phone: 949-824-2388. Thank you.
Everyone is required to have health insurance while enrolled at UCI. Consequently, you will need to either pay for GSHIP (Graduate Student Health Insurance) or waive out of it (if you are already covered by another plan). The cost of GSHIP will be added to your summer tuition and fees. If you plan to waive out of GSHIP, please don't pay your Summer Session tuition and fees until your waiver has gone through and your bill has been adjusted.
Please note:
The waiver period for MAT Summer Session begins on 5-15-2023 and ends on 6-5-23.
If granted, the waiver is in effect for the MAT Summer Session 2022 term only (6/26-9/11/23).
You will need to waive out again during the Fall 2023 waiver period. You will receive an email reminding you about the Fall 2023 waiver period in July.
Please complete your online waiver application as soon as possible after the waiver period opens and before the 6-5-2023 deadline. There will be no exceptions granted if the waiver deadline is missed.
The cost of GSHIP coverage for Summer MAT Session New, Incoming Students is $1,335.59
NOTE: UC undergraduates who are covered by UC SHIP are being permitted an exception this year. You will need to apply online for a waiver when the waiver period opens. You will “fail” the waiver due to the fact that the system, administered by AHP, does not allow an existing UC SHIP plan to be used for the waiver. You will then need to appeal the denial (follow the posted process for appealing). AHP will forward the names of the MAT students who failed the waiver because they provided evidence of SHIP coverage. The students should then contact the Insurance Services department at shc-insurance@uci.edu and 949-824-2388, so your waiver appeal can be approved quickly. Any student whose waiver application fails can appeal. However, this exception only applies to those students whose waiver fails due to having coverage under an existing UC SHIP plan.
