The aid offer you are receiving for summer session is only for summer. You will get another award offer for fall, winter and spring quarters. In general, the maximum you can get in low interest loans for summer is approximately $15,000 and the maximum you can get in low interest loans for fall, winter and spring is approximately $20,000 (divided between the three quarters). If you need more funding, you can apply for Grad+ loans but these have higher interest rates.

Available from UCI Financial Aid if the student has a CADAA and AB540 exemption from registrar (not available until fall quarter).
Candidates who graduated spring 2022 or will be graduating spring 2023 and enrolling in the 2023-24 MAT program, may be eligible for 5th year CalGrant funding. Complete the 2023-24 FAFSA and the G-44 form found here to apply for 5th year funding. The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) will review application and they will let us know if you are eligible. Cal Grant funding as reviewed and approved by CSAC is awarded in fall, winter and spring quarters only. These funds are not available to fund summer MAT courses. DACA status students are eligible for CalGrant funding if they meet other criteria.
The UCI Financial Aid Office wanted me to remind you of a few things:
1. The UCI Financial Aid Office does NOT process these forms or determine eligibility.
2. Approval of the G-44 form is solely done by CSAC. The UCI Financial Aid Office has to wait for the commission to include
eligible students on a roster before awards are given.
3. Students should read the eligibility requirements listed on the G44 before signing and follow the instructions on the form for
how and where to send it. Students have to affix manual “wet signatures” since CSAC is not accepting e-signatures for this form.
4. If the G44 is approved, Cal grant funds are not applied for summer MAT awards. However, it is best to apply early because this is the
busiest time for CSAC and they process documents in the order they are received.
5. When completing the form you can list 6/30/24 as the date you are applying for and being issued your preliminary credential.
The Golden State Teacher Grant is available to anyone who is currently in a teacher credential program. You can receive up to $20,000 in loans. These loans do not have to be paid back if you work 4 years in a priority school (list of schools is on website).
There is current legislation proposing to the change the requirement to working in any public school for 4 years to have your loan forgiven. We will let you know if this passes.
MS Bilingual candidates and SS Science and Math candidates will get an opportunity to apply to be part of a year-long residency program. Residents receive partial tuition reimbursement.
