As you have begun sharing your in-progress research ideas with others, what aspect of your topic do you think is the most interesting for someone with zero familiarity with your source? How can you convey to someone who is not interested in video games/comic books/anime/shoes/books (etc.) why your primary source is worth studying? What are your best multimodal options for creatively and effectively communicating your thesis and research methods to peers, especially those who aren't immersed in academia?
As I start sharing my in progress research ideas with others, I feel the most interesting aspect of my project is the fact that even if one doesn't have familiarity with the exact classical song I am studying, many people can generally relate to the fact that they have felt at least some sort of emotional response to music. Everyone listens to music, or most people, and we each listen to the type of music that best suits us and that we feel more connected to. The only way we start enjoying and feeling connected to genres of music is if we feel some sort of emotional or thoughtful response towards the song or beat. With my research project, I am connecting something that almost everyone has experienced with music- an emotional, physiological response- whether it be thinking of a memory, a place, people, colors, and relating it towards a classical piece. Music can also be seen as a coping mechanism or a path to imagination and away from reality- and with classical music, this mechanism can also be found through its composition: if it accentuates an affable approach (gentle), or affetuoso (affectionate), battaglia (drums to portray a battle), etc. In studying this classical piece, I find it worth looking into because the genre itself contains a very simplistic beauty that isn't found in any other genre of music. With no words, just instruments, the sounds create harmony that can range in levels of intensity and beat, and connects to a deeper level of phsyological change than more modernized music such as rap or indie.
The best multimodal options for creativity and to effectively communicate my thesis, especially if one isn't interested in this academia, I would suggest to go onto something where you can access technology, such as the phone or computer, and simply search for classical music. Take a moment to listen to the piece, whether it be outside at a park or while walking, and as you listen just contemplate the world around you. There's a different level of understanding between the human mind, emotions and nature when listening to classical music, because one key factorial purpose of what classical music portrays is the accentuatuation of natural beauty, which can be seen anywhere.
