Research Log Prompt 2:
It's decision time! What is your definitive topic selection, what are your provisional research questions, and how do you plan to handle any anticipated challenges of researching the topic?
For my Research Project, I have officially decided for my topic to be focusing on Ludovico Einaudi's Classical piano piece, Experience from his album In a Time Lapse. I noted a few different provisional research questions that I find curious to research about and deepen my understanding of how Ludovico Einaudi's piece is a reflection of world building. My questions are: How does Einaudi create a definitive universe through the tempo and timbre of his piece? How does the timbre of his piece contribute to the colors showcased on the cover of his album In a Time Lapse and how does this further enact worldbuilding within the audience/listener? In what ways does Einaudi's Experience contribute to the world building for a pianist?; And how does this universe for a pianist differentiate from a normal audience/listener when listening to this piece compared to playing it? In what ways does Einaudi's piece portray an array of emotions and how do they reflect world building within an individual's personal life?
These questions, though could be broad, I know will be fixed to a more detailed and nuanced version as I continue my research and dive deeper into my topic of choice. Many challenges I anticipate include the hardships of defining world building from a piece of music that has no lyrics to give definite background on, so it will be challenging to research a piece that has only instruments and personal interpretation. But I plan to combat this through breaking down the definite factors that contribute to making music: tempo, dynamic, melody, harmony, rythym, timbre, tune, instruments, movement, bridge, refrains, among many many other factors that contribute to creating a piece of music. I look foward to researching more about this piece and it's contribution to world building, especially how music can reflect world building very differently for everyone. Another exciting factor I look foward to use in my research is the fact that I am a pianist myself, so the effects of world building from Ludovico Einaudi's piece are seen differently towards pianists in comparison to audiences. Further, I anticipate researching something I am very passionate about that will not only give me an even greater appreciation and understanding of the art of classical piano music but developing a new perspective as a pianist.
