Artist Ruben de Anda created this Chicano Park Day poster honoring the brave traditions of Los Indios Voladores, a tradition coming from Papantla, Mexico. In 1986 Chicano Park was undergoing the "All the Way to the Bay" (1970-88) campaign spearheaded by Ronnie Trujillo of the Chicano Park Steering Committee which asserted the right of Logan residents to have bayfront access and to extend Chicano Park all the way to the waterfront. Activists challenged the San Diego Port District and other agencies from San Diego to Sacramento. Ground was broken for the bay park in 1987 and the park completed in 1990.
This Voz Fronteriza article offers insight into the link between art, culture, and the Chicano revolution.
