Having a central database allows collected data to be available to stakeholders. These include all students involved in collecting the data, teachers, professional scientists, and community members that desire to view, interpret, or use the data. By being open source and freely available, offers many pathways for collaborating on gaining a community understanding of the data collected.
The Our Forests data is stored in an online map-based data collection, visualization, and analysis platform called FieldScope. FieldScope is managed by BSCS Science Learning and supports a variety of CCS projects and allows participants from different geographic locations to collect, upload, and analyze data from their project. Using the FieldScope platform, students are able to visualize their datasets using maps, tables, and graphs, and make comparisons with other forest sites. This allowed students to see their datasets embedded in larger datasets. FieldScope has an option to export data in both CSV and XLS file formats, common file types that are used for analysis.
