Taller "Data wrangling and visualization in the tidyverse"
This workshop introduced data wrangling and visualization using functions from the Tidyverse. It used data from the Palmer Station’s Long Term Ecological Research program based in Antarctica, including the Palmer penguins and weather monitoring data. While we used environmental data, the skills learned apply to various data from different disciplines. This lesson walked participants through key steps in data wrangling, including subsetting data, creating new variables using conditional statements, summarizing data at aggregate levels, working with dates, joining together multiple data frames, and reshaping and visualizing data.
The goal of this initiative was to teach graduate and undergraduate students from Latin American countries to write modular code and reproducible practices for using R for data analysis.

TIERRA FEST 2022
05/07/2022
Tierra Fest was a Latinx community-led Earth Day festival that promoted interactive learning spaces with experiments, contests, and games to share with the general public experiences and understand Earth processes and environmental challenges.
One of the venues for 2022 was UC Davis, which joined three other venues in Mexico City: Colegio de San Ildefonso (National Autonomous University of Mexico), El Rule (Mexico’s City Ministry of Culture), and Centro Cultural España (Embassy of Spain in Mexico).
Our goal in the UC Davis venue was to provide a Spanish-language safe space to communicate Earth and environmental sciences to the broader community in Davis, Woodland, Dixon, Knights Landing, and other surrounding cities to engage them with the current scientific and environmental projects conducted by Latinxs students.
