You are cordially invited to attend Critical Hit’s 2026 Games Studies Symposium!
Inspired by undergraduate and graduate game studies work at both University of California, Davis (UC Davis) and California State University, Sacramento (CSU Sacramento), Rainbow Causeway is a free symposium open to presenters from either of these Sacramento-region campuses.
Rainbow Causeway is focused on showcasing new game studies work and ongoing or already-completed research. Presenters are encouraged to present their work from the academic year: presentations on class essays and projects, workshop ideas, and ongoing articles or chapters are welcome. All game studies–related topics are acceptable for submission.
Join us on May 15th starting at 3pm at UC Davis’ Cruess Hall (1003) to present your game studies research or to cheer on fellow scholars.
We welcome presentations of any level and especially encourage first time presenters!
Attend as a presenter or as an audience member by completing the form above.
The deadline to complete the form as a presenter is May 4th.
Critical Hit would like to thank the ALT-CTRL Lab and the ModLab for their support for Rainbow Causeway.
Critical Hit hosted a 2024 year-end symposium that showcased the research activity of the research cluster that year, featured new research in game studies by cluster members and others in the UC Davis community, collaborated with groups in the broader UC Davis gaming community, and hosted a keynote address, “The Digital Generic,” by Alenda Chang, Associate Professor of Film and Media Studies at University of California, Santa Barbara.
This culminating event occurred the same day as the Connections 2024 conference, where many Critical Hit members presented or otherwise participated. Part of the English Graduate Student Association’s (EGSA) ongoing annual interdisciplinary conference series, Connections 2024: Playing with Genre took place on April 26, 2024 in Walker Hall at UC Davis. Critical Hit is grateful for the special collaboration with EGSA that enabled these events to be such a success!
