Film Portfolio
Overview
Students at SL and HL undertake a variety of filmmaking exercises in a range of film production roles in order to fulfill defined filmmaker intentions. They acquire and develop practical skills and techniques through participation in film exercises, experiments and the creation of at least one completed film. Students reflect on how learning has further contributed to their understanding of film production roles and the extent to which their filmmaker intentions were fulfilled.
Each student submits a film portfolio for assessment, containing the following.
Portfolio pages (9 pages maximum: 3 pages maximum per film production role) and a list of all sources used.
A film reel (9 minutes maximum: 3 minutes maximum per film production role, including one completed film).
Resources
For the film portfolio assessment, you can work in three discrete film production roles selected from the following list:
Cinematographer
Director
Editor
Sound
Writer
One other clearly defined film production role not specified above (this optional role must be a visually creative film production role within the filmmaking process such as animator, art director, costume designer, production designer, production illustrator, or special effects, rather than purely logistical roles, such as producer).
Please note that the optional “one other clearly defined film production role” is included to allow for specific expertise, knowledge, or new technologies that may emerge over time. However, these optional roles should only be incorporated if the expertise, knowledge, and technology are available to support them.
