The Dance courses at Union City High School are offered to any student as an elective, and/or fulfill the required Fine Arts credit. The classes meet every day and consist of introductions to the rich techniques, principles, history, and cultures of various dance forms. Dance Performance & Aesthetics (Dance Company) is a pre-professional modeled class that focuses on the elements of working for a professional dance company. This class/company spends the entire year creating, rehearsing, and performing for community performances, workshops, festivals, events, and competitions.
The main goals of the dance curriculum at UCHS are for students to be equipped with the skills to interpret, appreciate, and experience the art of dance. There is a strong historical emphasis, elements of critique, and composition as a part of the courses as well. Students must take both Dance 1 & 2 prior to enrolling in the Honors classeses. Students are required to participate in school performances as part of their grade as well.Â
