Postsecondary Enrollment Options

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PSEO?

Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows public and nonpublic students in 10th, 11th and 12th grades to earn college credit while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of courses at eligible colleges in Minnesota. Students earn both college credit and high school credit by successful completion of the course.

Are College in the Schools (CIS) and College math classes PSEO courses?

The University of Minnesota's College in the Schools (CIS) and Normandale's College classes are concurrent enrollment classes, which are high school classes taught by Ubah teachers that students can earn college credit for at the same time. While students can earn college credit in CIS and College courses, they are not the same as PSEO courses, because they are taken at our high school instead of at a college. (The UMA Course Registration guide outlines the potential number of college credits that are earned in each concurrent enrollment class.)

How do I know if PSEO right for me?

PSEO students should be responsible individuals that can work well independently and are ready for higher level academics at a faster pace. It is serious to take college level courses during high school. The grades you earn will affect your college GPA as well as your high school GPA, and withdrawing from or failing courses can affect your progress toward high school graduation. You are strongly advised to have a meeting with your school counselor and a parent/guardian to learn more about the PSEO program and whether it would be a good fit for you before applying.

How do I apply for PSEO?

You will apply for PSEO through the selected college's PSEO website. Each participating college will have different deadlines and application steps. Below are the general steps that are similar for every institution. You can view a list of participating colleges in Minnesota by following this link.

By what date do I have to notify my school counselor that I intend to register for the PSEO program?

May 30, 2023 for the following school year (2023-2024). According to the Minnesota Department of Education, public school students are required to inform their high school of their intent to enroll in PSEO courses during the following school year by May 30.

Can I apply to do PSEO in just the spring semester?

PSEO is meant to be a yearlong program that you sign up for before the fall semester. If you had not notified Ms. Elisha by May 30, 2023 that you were intending to register for PSEO during the 2023-2024 year, your family may be responsible for tuition expenses, according to the Minnesota Department of Education.
