A message's channel is the method used to transmit it. Another name for it is the medium. The audience, the message, and the communication goal will determine which channel is best for a given communication. Though any sensory pathway can be used to send and receive information, visual and/or auditory channels are where most communication takes place. A few instances of channels are mobile phones, in-person interactions, speeches, phone calls, voicemails, radios, public address systems, Skype, and tangible transmission media like wires.
