History: In 1822, which was six years after the opening of the Honduras Free School, the English Baptist Church began a missionary activity in Belize. Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Bourne arrived and conducted these activities, such as preaching and teaching among slaves and other laborers. Their idea was to train these persons to develop a trade and to upgrade Belize’s standard of teaching despite the language barriers, for example, having to train Caribs (Garifuna) to teach and preach in their own native language, and other complications that they faced. They then created Queen Street Baptist School. Throughout its reign, in the beginning, the institution was known mainly for membership, leadership and great leadership support.
School Location: Queen Street School is located at Corner #1 Eve and Queen Street in Belize District. It’s an Urban Area. Queen Street Baptist School was established in 1828. This school is a small denominational school. The Church building was the very first to be constructed, right after the school was developed not too long after. Both are situated on the very same compound.
School Size: There are (140)- Hundred and Forty students presently registered at Queen Street Baptist School. The majority of students that attend Queen Street Baptist are those of the neighboring areas, mainly Majestic Alley, Gabourel Lane, Eve Street, Kelly Street, and New Road. The others hail from Jane Usher, Lake Independence, Pinks Alley, and some small village communities such as Hattieville, Ladyville, Sand Hill, and Mahogany Heights.
Type/ Structure: Queen Street Baptist School Buildings are constructed of cement and its church is constructed of wood. The School is also mono-grade level.
The structure consists of two (2) buildings, one building to your left when entering the school that consists of four (4) classrooms at the top story and the library. To the bottom of that same cement story, there are four (4) classrooms, the principal’s office, and the students’ bathroom.
To the right is the second building, it has two classrooms, the kitchen, the dining room, and the teachers’ bathroom. The upstairs of the building is the Queen Street Baptist Church of the School. In total, the school has ten (10) classrooms, one (1) library, the principal’s office, a kitchen and three (3) bathrooms, children and teachers.
Additional Information:
Being situated in the range of areas they are gang affiliated, we realized that sometimes students tend to carry the burden of such affiliation, but the minute they reach our school gates, our wardens greet them with a smile and assure them of their safety as they reach their destination. When entered into their classroom, they are engaged in meaningful lessons, and taught rules and procedures to cope with each day and mainly, they are reminded that they are loved and adored by their teachers, friends and of course God regardless of their situation.

Although we seem to be small in size, confused and forgotten by some, and are targets of educational forces, Queen Street Baptist has risen drastically, through the hard work and dedicated teachers. We have 10 fully equipped, trained, and licensed teachers and 2 determined wardens who care for the safety of each student.
Queen Street Baptist may not be as adventurous when it comes to sports or partake in many large events, but each year we participate in the Annual Baptist Day. This event is where all Baptist
Primary Schools and High Schools meet and engage in Sporting events. Each year it is held at different locations throughout the county. This allows the students to meet their fellow classmates, engage in activities which they may not do on a normal site, see as they are traveling, and develop a sense of sportsmanship. For the past 3 years, Queen Street Baptist has received 3 trophies for each event. On October 4, 2019, we received the Manager’s Cup as one of the biggest Cups.
As mentioned before, Queen Street Baptist Primary School may not have a vast population, and is sometimes forgotten and confused by many, our environment caters to all and is full of life and love for our students that enter our gates.
Vision Statement
Queen Street Baptist Primary School seeks to promote the total development of its students. We will endeavor to produce upon completion of Class Six, students who will possess the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and ethical skills necessary to ensure that they become positive contributors to the development of our Belizean Society.
Mission Statement
Queen Street Baptist Primary School is cognizant of the children placed in its charge. We are committed to providing for the total development of all its children spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically, and aesthetically.

Description of Socioeconomic: Most of the students come from either a middle income or low-income families.
Linguistic/Cultural background of students:
All of the students speak English with the exception of Anderson who also speaks Spanish. Most of the students are of Creole descent, Kennera is of Garifuna descent and Anderson is of Hispanic descent. However, they all speak Kriol which is difficult at times to explain if they only understand it if you speak Kriol to them.
Brief description of the special educational needs of the students:
Due to COVID the strengths and weaknesses vary amongst the students. Half of the class is able to read and write while the other half has trouble, they can only orally explain themselves. The grammatical structure is where they lag behind. Their mathematical skills are very poor, for example, simple addition seems to be hard for them. The students struggle with mathematical concepts with the exception of Deon, Tyrell, and Tyesha. The students do not show any special educational disability. Proper reinforcement is needed to boost their cognitive abilities to where they should be. Also due to most of the students coming from low-income families they are not able to get the basic school supplies and materials that they would need for a class session or to complete their homework or do projects . During the online sessions students were not able to access the online resources which is one of the major causes of the students being behind.
