“All things come to those who wait” (McCallum & Fane, 2019) Miss Fane was an 18th-century writer, poet, and ambassadress. A person who achieved great things in that era is always amazing to read about, especially if it was a woman. It is a quote that resonates with me, and I’ve always said it to friends and family members but never knew where it came from. Now after doing the research, I found out it is a proverb from a poet. Perhaps by elaborating on what that proverb means to the students they can understand how education is not a race but a goal especially now with the competency-based curriculum they can achieve it in any length of time. In that way, I want to leave an imprint in this world and as teachers, we are beacons of light to children. We set the examples for them to follow and the examples should be good.
The way you set up a classroom is like Fung Shui, everything needs a balance that helps to flow good energy during a lesson. I chose the movie theatre theme because I want the kids to feel like stars. When I was a little girl attending school, I only paid attention to one particular classroom in standard 5. My homeroom teacher at that time was Miss Thompson and the way she would go about her lessons and how she decorated our classroom made me want to learn. It was because of her I decided I wanted to pursue teaching the subject of English but financially it didn’t happen. However, with patience and saving up, I’m finally getting my Associate's degree in Primary Education. The teacher I spoke about earlier, helped me understand what was happening to me at a very confusing stage of life. We are mothers, nurses, counselors, and teachers so I want them to know that all good things come to those who wait.
So when I teach a lesson I want the same vibe that, it's ok to not understand something and it's ok to ask questions. The way I want each child in my classroom to feel is that we are a unit we win together we lose together but we won't give up. Not everyone will be at the same level, especially those schools that don't have the resources to teach the children during the pandemic. Now more than ever educators are trying different ways to test competency to see how far behind these children are and how fast we can get them back up to speed. However, like I said in the beginning everything takes time and greatness will take a bit of time. I'm sure with dedication I can get my students up to where they need to be because they all deserve a fighting chance and someone to let them know they are there for them. Most of the lessons I will teach will have some interactive games, or they will be in groups to promote more social interaction after being isolated during the summer break. (N.d.).
