The Department of Transportation has identified ways that accidents with teens are more common. Mentioning that teens lack maturity and experience resulting in accidents from distraction. The Department of Transportation have analyzed that accidents from teens with their peers are more than often to occur. 

They have identified ways to prevent this with the GDL system: Learners permit, intermediate, and full licensure. Each of these provisions have their guidelines resulting in minimum age requirements, experience, supervised driving, passenger limit, and curfew.

In 2021, United States Department of Transportation reported the number of teens (15-18 years of age) involved in an accident that resulted in a fatality.
