Week Twelve

Preparing a Complete Draft of Your Researched Argument Paper

12.1 Discussion: Share a Researched Argument Draft for Peer Review

This week you will focus on preparing a complete draft of your Researched Argument Paper. You'll use your outline from week 10 and your thesis and MEAL Plan paragraph from week 11, along with feedback on both. If you used the graphic organizer in week 10, you may look back at it for reference as well. For this draft, you'll want to ensure that:

  • your thesis statement is a single, grammatically correct sentence that contains your claim and reasons, is polished and perfected, and is the last sentence in your introductory paragraph;

  • you have at least one paragraph for each supporting reason and that the paragraphs follow the MEAL Plan strategy;

  • you address and debunk/refute opposing views;

  • you have a clear and effective conclusion.

Further, your draft must satisfy the assignment requirements (from the Week Fourteen page):

  • be at least 1000 words long, not including header information or the Works Cited page.

  • use at least 7 library sources (i.e., books, scholarly journals, etc., that are physically located in the library or only available via the library databases) and no more than 3 internet sources.

  • rely on sources that are the best available, most reliable, credible, and accurate.

  • be well-organized, polished, and formatted as an academic paper following MLA paper formatting guidelines.

  • document all sources used via in-text citation and on a Works Cited page according to MLA documentation rules.

Name your Google Doc as follows: 12.1 Researched Argument DRAFT <Your last name> (replacing <Your last name> with your actual last name). Be sure your Google Doc permissions are set to "Anyone with the link" "can comment."

By Sunday of Week 12:

Create an initial post in the 12.1 discussion board on Blackboard and embed a link to the Google Doc containing your 12.1 draft. We will conduct peer review of these drafts in week 13.

The rubric below will be used to grade your 12.1 draft.
