My position at the UofA is my dream job as I am able to split my time between teaching and research.
I love both my roles as an anatomy teacher to the medical students, residents, and undergraduate students (ANAT401/NEURO375). Throughout my graduate degrees I taught classes in anatomy. I knew there were jobs out there for researchers who could teach anatomy so I made sure I could do both.
My laboratory work is at an exciting point as we have established ourselves in the nerve regeneration field with our projects on conditioning electrical stimulation. This project comes from the collaboration of Ming Chan's idea, Jenna-Lynn Senger's excellent hands and hardwork, and the basic science techniques from my lab.
Our work is continuing strong with Jenna (who is a staff surgeon at the University of British Columbia ). Thank you to Mackenzie Caddy for putting together this website for the lab.
When not at work I am with my family (my husband Cregg, and sons Matthew and Benjamin). Life is Good.

Jenna is a staff surgeon in the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of British Columbia. R She came to the Webber lab in her 3rd year of residency and although it was supposed to just be a Master's degree, it was so successful that she stayed to complete her PhD.
You can see from her scholarships/publications listed on the other page that she had a very productive PhD and is hoping to move the conditioning electrical stimulation treatment to patients with nerve injuries. Her dream job is to be both a clinician and researcher...and I am hoping it is at the UofA so we can continue our work together for the next 20 years!

I’m Susanne and I am the Webber Lab research technician. My role is to keep things running smoothly forward! After new experiments are designed and the delicate surgeries are completed, I help with the processing and analysis of samples. It’s exciting to see great ideas come to fruition!

K. Ming Chan is a professor in physical medicine and rehabilitation with adjunct appointments at the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute and Department of Surgery. His clinical practice is in neuromuscular disease. Dr. Chan has taken part in the development of regional multidisciplinary programs for patients in Central and Northern Alberta. His research interests are in peripheral nerve regeneration, myoelectric prosthetic control and neurodegenerative disorders. Publications include over 100 original research articles and book chapters. He has held peer reviewed research funding from the Canadian Institute of Health Research, Alberta Innovates Health Solutions, and the National Institute of Health.
Dr. Chan has been an incredible asset to the conditioning electrical stimulation work done in the Webber lab. He recruited Jenna-Lynn Senger to the lab and his ideas and support have propelled our work forward. Dr. Chan is beginning clinical trials with the conditioning electrical stimulation to treat carpal tunnel syndrome.

Dr. Karyne Rabey is an anthropologist specializing in comparative anatomy and is a member of the Division of Anatomy in the Department of Surgery. In addition to being a colleague of Dr. Webber to teach anatomy to the medical students, Karyne has been instrumental in analyzing gait analysis for our animals following distal nerve transfer repair (using conditioning electrical stimulation +/- exercise rehab training). She performs kinetic and kinematic analysis to observe several aspects of the animals walking during their recovery and she performs microCT scans on the animals to measure bone and muscle density during their recovery.

Dr. Jennifer C. Hocking is a long time friend and colleague of Christine. Jennifer is a Developmental Neuroscientist focused on retinal development in zebrafish. Jen has always contributed intellectually to the work in our lab as we discuss our projects. Christine and Jen work together as members of the Division of Anatomy to teach anatomy to medical and undergraduate students at the UofA.

Dr. Jaret Olson and Dr. Mike Morhart are both plastic surgeons in the Division of Plastic surgery with specialty in nerve injury repairs. Dr. James Wolfli is a plastic surgeon with specialty in breast reconstruction following mastectomy. We have utilized their clinical expertise to design experiments for our animal work to mimic the human injury state.
