We welcome psychiatry residents to join a larger team and participate in research projects currently underway.
Residents may choose to be a member of a larger research team where a graduate student is the lead, or to work more independently to produce a manuscript as the first or second author. Both of these opportunities provide both EPA's and authorship opportunities.
Smaller isolated research tasks, such as background literature searches, ethics applications, or writing a study proposal, are also feasible and will provide research EPA's but not necessarily authorship.
Senior psychiatry residents (PGY-4 or PGY-5) who wish to learn EMDR may do so under the supervision of EMDRIA-approved consultant Dr. Burback, space permitting. This usually requires planning in advance. Note that students must enroll in EMDRIA-approved basic EMDR training to be eligible for an EMDR selective and complete at least Part 1 before the selective starts (https://www.emdria.org/5-steps-to-take-an-emdria-approved-emdr-training/). The cost for this training varies, but has recently been about $2000. Students are encouraged to check if scholarship funding is available within the department for this course.
The EMDR selective will include preparatory meetings and weekly delivery of EMDR therapy to a pre-selected patient, under the supervision of Dr. Burback.
Note: There may be an opportunity to learn 3MDR as well. Contact Dr. Burback through the form below for details if interested.
