Frequently Asked Questions

What are the weekly meetings?

There are two weekly meetings, occuring on Mondays and Thursdays.

Each Monday meeting starts with a concrete, scheduled activity. Our meetings revolve around our three pillars: Talk, Make and Play. For example, we could have a guest speaker from the industry (Talk), a workshop on prototyping a game (Make), or a session where we play one of our favourite games to analyze it (Play).
After the meeting (an hour or two) people are free to hang out, play games, talk shop, or whatever else!

Thursday meetings are meant to be a place for Denizens to work on projects and hang out. Drop in to say hi, play some games, or ask for advice!

Do you only do video games?

No! We love to play and make board games, card games, and video games.

But I've never made a game before!

No problem! If you would like to make a game, we would be happy to help. Our semesterly game jams are usually a good place to get your feet wet.

Do I need to be able to code?

No! The Den is made up of artists, musicians, designers, writers, producers, programmers, and all other sorts of -ers. We can also show you tools and game engines that have very little or no coding involved.

What is the time commitment?

There is none!  You can join as many or as few meetings as you wish at any time.
Our weekly meetings are typically an hour or two long, however it's completely up to you how much you want to interact.

Is there a membership fee?

Nope! As long as we are seeing your glorious face you are a member.

That's right, we used to be known as the Video Game Art & Design club, or VGAD for short. Learn more about The Games Den
