University Commons, formerly the Dentistry/Pharmacy Centre, is a revitalized hub at the heart of the University of Alberta, blending historic architecture with modern, student-focused spaces for learning, research, and collaboration. Originally built in 1922, its renewal enhances sustainability and energy efficiency while supporting diverse academic and administrative functions. Designed to accommodate quiet study areas and bookable meeting rooms, the space fosters an inclusive community environment.
The students at the course tour the building and then get a presentation from representatives from the owner, designer, and constructor of the building. The presentation covers all the sustainability aspects that were utilized in this impressive project.
