AI Meetup

Is hosted monthly (now online) and will discuss the latest topics in AI and machine learning. It’s a great way to chat more with our team, discover how companies are using AI to drive value, and network with local AI companies, service providers, and corporate labs. These talks tend to be much more approachable for non-scientists/developers, and can be a great way to connect in.

AI4Society is one of the five Signature Areas of Research and Teaching of the University of Alberta, and is focused on Artificial Intelligence, its applications, and its transformative role for our society.

Over the past 30 years, the University of Alberta has been consistently ranked as one of the top three institutions worldwide for AI research and is a lead player in Canada’s national AI strategy. Building on this recognition, the goal of AI4Society is to stimulate and support interdisciplinary research and teaching initiatives in this field. AI4Society provides continuing institutional leadership by developing and coordinating innovative training programs and representing the institution in new initiatives with public, private, and international partners.

NEXT PROGRAM: MAY - JUNE 2023

The AI4Good Lab is a 7-week program that equips women and people of marginalized genders with the skills to build their own machine learning projects. We emphasize mentorship and curiosity-driven learning to prepare our participants for a career in AI.

The program is designed to open doors for those who have historically been underrepresented in the AI industry. Together, we are building a more inclusive and diverse tech culture in Canada while inspiring the next generation of leaders to use AI as a tool for social good.

Every year, the CIFAR Deep Learning + Reinforcement Learning (DLRL) Summer School brings together graduate students, post-docs and professionals to cover the foundational research, new developments, and real-world applications of deep learning and reinforcement learning.
