One of the topics that the Star Walk Kids application covers are the constellations. The app provides names, images and descriptions of each constellation in relation to stories behind Greek mythology. When an audience observes the constellations using specifically only Greek mythology it creates a "built-in bias" (Adams, 2022, slide 35) understanding of the constellations. The application becomes a political (co)actor by "constraining or making other values impossible" (Adams, 2022, slide 34). This can be seen by recognizing that no other mythologies, understanding and storytellings are included in the application other than Greek mythology.
While Star Walk Kids provides useful and thoughtful information regarding constellations I would suggest to the grade 6 students to absorb the information provided by the app to help broaden their understanding and knowledge about the constellations. Therefore, the students don't misinterpret that constellations are to be believed by one singular belief system but rather that the understanding of constellations will vary depending on belief systems.Â
