NURS 425 - Nursing Leadership in a Focus Area
★6 (fi 12) (variable, 2-192c hours-0) This leadership experience provides opportunity to consolidate prior learning and develop confidence and competence as students prepare to transition to the role of the Registered Nurse. The focus is on collaboration with interprofessional teams, systems thinking, and healthcare system change. Students evaluate the influence of evidence, policy and legislation on decision-making in complex health systems using a relational practice lens. Students demonstrate and enhance their own relational capacity as leaders and innovators for 21st Century Canadian healthcare. Fieldwork hours listed are the total number of hours and will be offered over 12 weeks. Prerequisites: All courses in the program except NURS 422 and NURS 485. Corequisite: NURS 422
Upon completion of this course, the student must be able to:
Embody professional nursing practice, relational inquiry and essential components of leadership at an entry to practice level.
Consolidate prior learning from clinical and theory courses.
Demonstrate ongoing development of leadership competence and confidence as a nurse leader.
Integrate interprofessional competencies within a collaborative team environment.
Evaluate the influence of evidence, policy & legislation on decision making in complex health systems.
Integrate concepts and essential components of ethical nursing practice from NURS 422.
Synthesize leadership, innovation and systems thinking concepts and theory to develop a final leadership paper.
