Dr. Hashemi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta (since 2021). He earned his PhD in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Waterloo (Canada). Dr. Hashemi was a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo, a Visiting Professor at the school of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), the General Chair of the IEEE ITS Conference 2024 (in Edmonton), Publication Chair of IEEE Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics (BioRob 2026), and Program Committee for American Control Conference (ACC). Dr. Hashemi is an IEEE senior member and Technical Committee member for IEEE Control Systems Society (hybrid system; system Identification & adaptive control, and smart cities); and his current research programs focus on cyber-physical human systems, robot learning, control theory, networked control systems, and human perception. He has large-scale projects with Canadian and International industry partners on autonomous navigation, robot perception, and explainable AI with several technology transfers.
