This site is dedicated to recruiting and training Standardized Patients (SPs) who support both teaching and assessment activities within the Northern Alberta Medical Program (NAMP).
SPs play a key role in shaping tomorrow’s healthcare professionals. Through realistic patient encounters, SPs help students build the skills that matter most in medicine.
As an SP, you'll help medical students:
Sharpen their critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills
Master patient interviews and effective communication
Build trust through empathy and body language
Giving and receiving feedback to support lifelong learning
As a Standardized Patient, you’ll act as a patient experiencing a specific set of symptoms or concerns by presenting the same case consistently across multiple encounters. This allows medical students a chance to learn in a safe, supportive environment.
Your role helps students:
Apply clinical reasoning in realistic scenarios
Practice physical examination techniques
Strengthen professionalism and patient-centered care
Prepare for assessments with consistent, reliable case experiences
Whether you're a student, retiree, working professional, or someone curious about medical education, you’re invited to join us!
Flexible, casual work
Paid participation
No experience required
Make a meaningful contribution to medical education
