Bylaw 200 - A Bylaw Respecting Membership
Membership Classes
General Member
Every graduate and undergraduate international student studying at the University of Alberta holding a valid study permit and/or paying the international students’ fee is a general member of the ISA by default.
Undergraduate General Member: Every undergraduate general member.
Graduate General Member: Every graduate general member.
A Council Member
A graduate or undergraduate general member elected to hold a council position as a councillor and the board members.
Undergraduate Council Member: An undergraduate general member elected to hold an undergraduate council position.
Graduate Council Member: A graduate general member elected to hold a graduate council position.
Board Member
A graduate or undergraduate general member elected to hold an ISA board voting position.
Undergraduate Board member: An undergraduate general member elected to hold an ISA Board voting position.
Graduate Board member: A graduate general member elected to hold an ISA Board voting position.
Advisor
An individual, that shall be designated as an Advisor of the ISA by the councils and have a voting seat in the Advisory Committee.
Membership Standing
A general member cannot be classified in bad standing; and,
The Hearing Board shall classify any internal member in bad standing and make the final decision for bad standing members at its discretion.
Process for Expulsion and Impeachment of a Member.
A General Member cannot be expelled or impeached but they can voluntarily leave or rejoin by informing the board.
A Board Member can be impeached or expelled by an impeachment motion submitted by any Council Member.
A Council Member shall be impeached or expelled by a formal motion submitted in the respective council submitted by any respective council member.
Advisors of the ISA can only be expelled or impeached by the Hearing Board or the Advisory Committee.
Any member shall resign with a minimum of two (2) week email notices to the ISA Board.
