Today the Colden Mansion ruins occupy an 8.5-acre parcel of land on the northeast corner of New York State Route 17K and Stone Castle Road in the Town of Montgomery, east of the Village of Montgomery and west of the City of Newburgh and Stewart International Airport, in Orange County, New York (National Register of Historic Places 2007 Weekly Lists).

Home Schooled: Jane and her siblings were not located near a school or other institution of education and as such their education was put in the hands of their 2 parents Calladwallader Colden and Alice Colden.
Home Schooled: Jane and her siblings were not located near a school or other institution of education and as such their education was put in the hands of their 2 parents Calladwallader Colden and Alice Colden.
As a female at the time, Jane was not exposed to the educational opportunities (learning Latin) a man had but instead was educated by both her mother with whom she spent much time in the garden, her father who introduced her to botany, and her scientific colleague's whos studies enabled further understanding of her research (Lineus Catogarizing systems) (Harrison 1995).
