Huiyu Chen is a postdoctoral fellow working with the ITS lab. She completed her PhD in Transportation Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Tony Qiu in 2023. She received her bachelor’s degree (Yisheng Mao hons.) from Southwest Jiaotong University, and master’s degree from Tongji University. Her research interests include network modelling and intelligent traffic operation and control for connected and automated vehicles. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, cooking, photography, and swimming. Her favourite mode of transportation is cycling.

Fan Wu is a postdoctoral fellow working with the ITS lab. She completed her PhD in Transportation Engineering at the University of Alberta under the supervision of Dr. Tony Qiu in 2024. She earned her master’s degree from Harbin Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree from Southeast University in China. Currently she is working on topics and projects related to urban mobility under the connected automated vehicle environment. Her research interests include intelligent transportation systems, traffic control, and operation for connected autonomous vehicles. She enjoys travelling, swimming, photography, and video making. Her favourite transportation mode is cycling.

Kaizhe Hou began his PhD in September 2018, under the supervision of Dr. Tony Qiu. He received this BEng and MSc degree in Control Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University, China, in 2015 and 2018, respectively. His research interests include V2X communication, edge computing in intelligent transportation systems and traffic video processing.

Siqi Yan began his PhD in January 2022, under the supervision of Dr. Qiu. He received his MSc in Computing Science at the University of Alberta. His current research is computer vision and image processing for road construction zone detection and multi-target multi-camera vehicle tracking. Siqi’s hobbies include travelling, photography, and inline skating. His favourite method of transportation is automated vehicles.

Gary Zhang will begin his PhD in Transportation Engineering in September 2024. He completed his MSc in Transportation Engineering in February 2024, under the supervision of Dr. Tony Qiu. Following the completion of his Bachelor’s degree in geophysics, he was inspired to apply and broaden his knowledge in a more specific, impactful direction. This motivation led him to join Dr. Qiu’s team, delving into the research of winter road weather conditions using machine learning, a field at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and civil engineering. Gary is an ardent motorsport enthusiast and enjoys travelling, particularly via rail, his preferred mode of transportation.

Mingwei is currently pursuing a MSc in Computing Science under the supervision of Dr. Irene Cheng. Mingwei began an internship with Dr. Tony Qiu in May 2023, focusing primarily on the image classification and real-time intersection monitoring project. Mingwei completed a BSc in Computing Science at the University of Alberta. Research interests include computer vision, machine learning, and software development. Outside of work, Mingwei enjoys skiing and photography. His favorite mode of transportation is traveling by China's high-speed train system.
