Application Information:

Deadline for Applications: the application portal opens October 2023 with applications for the Summer 2024 Cohort due January 8, 2024. Please note that the normal deadline for our MEd programs is March 1, 2024 - however - the earlier deadline allows us to evaluate the cohort applications separately, provides for a wait-list process and enables planning for the summer residency.

Department Eligibility and Application information: ACCESS HERE

Application Portal: ACCESS HERE

Program: select Curriculum & Pedagogy as your program (Elementary Education, Faculty of Education) - start date July 2024.

Transcripts:  the application process requires unofficial transcripts that need to be dated within the last 6 months. Even if you only completed one course from an institution, you'll need that transcript (even if the transfer credit appears on another  one...). You will need to submit originals (except for U of A transcripts) if you are accepted - might as well get to know the process now and be ready! If you are scanning and/ or sending PDF copies, please ensure that the complete page is showing and both the front and back of each page is included.

Advisor: there is a section on the application that asks if you have identified an advisor - please put "Dr. Douglas Gleddie", "Dr. Hayley Morrison" or "Dr. Lauren Sulz" in this spot - it will help us identify you as a HPE Cohort applicant.

References: You need three referees and will have to input their names and emails into the portal. Feel free to contact them in advance and inform them that they will be contacted by the U of A via email from the portal (they do NOT send it to you)! It is helpful if they complete the online assessment form AND write a letter of reference (can be attached online). If you have an academic reference who can speak to your scholarship, that is helpful but not absolutely necessary (especially for those of you who have been out of University for some time!). Administrators and direct supervisors are better references than colleagues. People who can speak to your professional growth, use of research in teaching, leadership, etc. are the best references!

Letter of Intent: (500 words approximately) Essentially, this letter describes WHY you want to pursue a MEd in the HPE Cohort. It should be carefully and thoughtfully prepared as it is one of the criteria we consider for entrance into the program.

CV/ Resume: You will also need to upload your most recent CV. Be sure to include your scholarly studies to date (and/ or how you use research in your work), professional educational activities (presentations, curriculum development, consulting, etc.),  leadership experiences and other relevant information.

PLEASE NOTE! MEd applicants do NOT need a writing sample (that's only for PhD students!).
