It is long known that teachers face a daunting array of job-related stressors that can lead to the decision to leave the profession. But what enables teachers to stay? One factor considered influential is that of hope. This talk will share exploratory research findings of mid-career public school teachers' perspectives on hope: what hope means, why it matters, what depletes hope, and various combinations of hope-nurturing, stress-coping strategies that sustain teachers to keep teaching.
