ACTWS & CSTWS 2024

It was great to attend the Alberta Chapter of the Wildlife Society (ACTWS) and the Canadian Section of Wildlife Society (CSTWS) Joint Conference in Jasper (AB), in March. Our lab met so many wonderful people during this conference. It was also an incredibly exciting time as this was the first time students from the lab presented at a conference. Congratulations to Jinxuan Cui and Lucille Wang for your amazing work!

ICCB 2023

Our lab attended and presented at the International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB) in Kigali, Rwanda in July. We met so many incredible people during the conference, caught up with some old colleagues and friends, and even got to see mountain gorillas and chimpanzees in the wild!

new paper on costs of Haemosporidian infections

Our latest paper on effects of chronic parasitic infections is out in @TheRoyalSociety. This is the culmination of great team effort by M.Sc. Sarena Olson (Queen’s University), Dr. Ignacio T. Moore (Virginia Tech), and Dr. Fran Bonier (Queen’s University). Check it out here.

in National Geographic

My picture of a rufous-eared warbler was chosen by National Geographic as one of their best photos of the week. My photo is number 6 in the gallery. Check it out here.

The land on which the Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta sits, traditionally known as asiniskaw sipisis (Stoney Creek), is Treaty 6 territory and a traditional meeting ground for many Indigenous peoples. This territory provided a travelling route and home to the Maskwacis Nêhiyawak, Niitsitapi, Nakoda, and Tsuut'ina Nations, the Métis, and other Indigenous peoples. Their spiritual and practical relationships to the land create a rich heritage for our learning and our life as a community.
