Psychology Major
How are you feeling about graduating?
"Excited. It’s been a long time coming. But at the same it feels like I am grieving the end of a chapter, something I welcome with open hands"
What is your favorite memory of being a student at the U of A?
"My favorite memory of being a student at the U of A was being in the classroom. I was privileged to take classes where I knew some people so that heightened my experience. I got to learn and be part of the learning community with my friends. This meant that there were so many late night studying together. Phone calls that lasted hours trying to teach the other subject areas for our classes. Also being involved on campus is also a memory I cherish. I was able to meet different people from diverse backgrounds while also contributing towards my community"
Talk about your work term with AWE! What was your role and responsibilities? What did you learn?
"My work term with AWE was at the Office of the Student Ombuds. My main role was to advise students on university policy when navigating academic issues and providing options for navigating conflicts within that area. I was able to provide a lot of guidance and break down policies, options and strategies for student to use when dealing with academic issues. I was also an advocate for fairness. This meant that I ensured and advocated for the appropriate protocols to be used fairly when applied at different levels and people. I also provided feedbacks if I noticed any shortcoming with policies/protocols and the way they are applied."
Do you have any advice for current students?
"Plan, plan, plan. I try not to regret a lot of things but one thing that I regret when I look back is not planning for my undergraduate degree properly. I didn’t have a set goal or achievement that I wanted to attain and so it took me a long time to find value in school and being an active member of the university community. This also meant that I missed out on some professional opportunities as well. But I will also say give yourself grace. The fact that you are here is a milestone in it of itself. If things don’t go a certain way, grief and appreciate where you are and then keep it pushing."
What are you most looking forward to after graduation?
"Working. Having more time to do the other things that I am passionate about."
Anything else you would like to add?
"Adios Amigos."
