Meet Peris J.

Communications Assistant

Mount Royal University

Fall 2023 (4 month term)

"As a Communications Assistant at Mount Royal University, I have worked with a lot of different departments within the Office of the Registrar to analyze and edit the communication materials  that are sent directly to students. In this position, I have really enjoyed learning about how Mount Royal operates and facilitates relationships with its students. One of the benefits of being a student from another university is that I have a unique perspective in analyzing communications through the lens of what I know I would be interested in receiving. I think there is a great opportunity for Arts Work Experience students to take any distinctive perspectives that they may have as students and use it to their advantage during their work term.

The most important thing that I have learned throughout my time at Mount Royal University is how to build open and meaningful connections in the workplace. One of my goals from the beginning of my work term was to build strong relationships with my colleagues so that I could foster excellent interpersonal communication skills. Due to the nature of my role at Mount Royal, I knew that effective communication would be an integral  aspect of  my position and that the quality of my work would greatly depend on my relationships with others. This was a really important learning objective for me because I knew that these skills, more than anything, would translate to my career after university. "
