Hello, My name is Gurleen Kaur (she/her) and I am a Career Peer Educator with the Career Centre. I have been in my position for three years and I always enjoy meeting new people to support them in their career journeys. Today I will discuss service options for crisis situations.
Supports to stay resilient in crisis!
Balancing school and work can be a very difficult and energy-consuming task, sometimes leading to stress, burnout and even crisis. It is important to know that it is okay (and encouraged) to reach out for support, especially if doing so will help you develop resiliency and be successful in all your endeavors. It shows a lot of strength and self-awareness to be able to ask for support! I will highlight a few services on and off campus that are there for you if you find yourself in a tough place:
One at a time therapy service (OAATT) - University of Alberta
This new services focuses on short-term counselling and/or quick access to crisis support
Counsellors will help you develop problem-solving skills by supporting you through one issue at a timeĀ
This free service is open to all students on campus
988: suicide crisis and helpline - Canada-wide service
This 24/7 service is a new service available to all Canadians for crisis and/or suicide support
This free, confidential service can be used to support yourself or someone who you know is at risk
This service is available to everyone via phone and text to meet a variety of needs
Access 24/7 (780-424-2424) - Edmonton Service
This service allows anyone to access counselling from psychiatric nurses, psychologists and psychiatrists at their walk-in clinic
A crisis line is also available to Albertans for free, 24/7
