The LINK Project

PRIHS grant

Drs. Darren Lau and Dean Eurich have been awarded a PRIHS 7 grant ($1.4 million over three years) to advance the care of First Nations adults with diabetes (2023-2026). With support and partnership from multiple First Nations, including Big Stone, Siksika, and Cold Lake, the LINK project will see the deployment of a community-oriented virtual diabetes care and care coordination service.  This program is intended to empower indigenous community members living with diabetes, and is particularly oriented to bridging the well-characterized barriers to accessing diabetes care in Alberta's rural and remote communities. LINK will improve the accessibility and appropriateness of care, reduce unnecessary diabetes-related acute care, and reduce diabetes-related outcomes.  Virtual care in LINK is offered via a close collaborator and technology partner, Okaki (https://diabetescare.okaki.com/).  LINK and Okaki acknowledge funding support from Alberta Innovates via the PRIHS 7 grant, as well as Indigenous Services Canada.
