Y2 Nutrition & Food Science
For all three years of my undergraduate degree, I have been fortunate enough to work alongside several previous and current VP Event executives to host events that have become a staple of my week.
I would love to continue Coffee hour for a multitude of reasons. This weekly occurrence has completely re-shaped my understanding of community building fundamentals. Having a consistent time and place in which students are able to join for free has provided the grounds for many of my own friendships, and I really hope that I can provide that same opportunity for current and future students next year! Coffee Hour has shown me how having a low-requirement, relaxed atmosphere can really encourage people to attend on their own terms and comfort levels. It allows for even the busiest of students to access a refuelling drink, snack and conversation before continuing on in their degree. My hope is to foster connections between attendees of all programs, whether that be through a familiar face or friendly welcome.
I hope that I can host a recurring "meet and greet" style event,
inviting professors, advisors and upper-years to enjoy food and
beverages while chatting with students who may not otherwise have an alternative avenue of communication with professionals. I have been fortunate to experience the work of previous VP Events who hosted a similar function, and found it successful for a variety of reasons. Not only was I able to ask questions about their work, but I was fortunate enough to get to know what fuelled their passion for higher education, their biggest accomplishments and really see myself reflected in shared undergraduate experiences. With this, I hope to build a bridge between current and future leaders, fostering the creation of informal mentor-mentee relationships for those who may be interested.
For the Undergraduate Mixer, I hope to accomplish a very similar goalby extending the allotted time for mixing between students andFaculty. I would also love to invite the future Executives and Program Representatives to present at the Mixer as well. This would be in  hopes of providing students who may be curious about the inner workings of an executive position further information and first hand experience. Having the executives explain what their position entails might inspire a future student to apply the next time an application opens. I hope that by continuing this, more students feel empowered to
take on governance roles, possibly even under the close guidance of a final-year executive student.
