Li-ion batteries are often packaged in three different types: cell, pouch, and prismatic. In addition different chemistry generates different hazard phenomena such as explosion with projectiles or smoke generation only in case of failure. This research aims to identify proper methods of PPE when conducting suppression activities in a relatively confined room such as aircraft.
Literature review of Li-ion battery fires
Image processing to quantify smoke generation
Performance-based fire risk analysis
This project will give the student invaluable holistic research experience based on comprehensive literature review, technical enhancement using computer tools, and performance-based fire safety analysis.
Undergraduate standing (at least left with one semester for graduation)
