Research problem and objectives

The preference to use personal protective clothing varies from person to person and depends on factors such as culture, norms and values, and knowledge and education. Thus, the development of the SmaPP relies not only on comfort and sensing technology but also on the perceived like or dislike of the clothing and the associated social connotations. Therefore, evaluating the human perception of protective equipment is critical to increasing the ubiquitous acceptance of SmaPP. This project, led by Dr. Tony McAleavy from the OSU Fire and Emergency Management Program (FEMP), will analyze factors that determine the human perception of SmaPP, specifically the effectiveness of COVID-19 face masks
